Love the Blues

Learn a style that will make you want to run to your harp to play!

Blues is one of the simplest musical structures, and one of the richest and most expressive.  And it’s incredibly fun on the harp!

You start with three simple chords, and once you know exactly where to play them, there is no limit.

With Deborah, you’ll learn:

  1. Exactly where to set your levers to play a Blues melody that’s easy yet sounds impressive.

  2. How to bend notes and do riffs, licks, bass lines and comping (super fun).

  3. How to play solo Blues

  4. How to play with a band, shifting between the 3 roles: Bass, comping and melody.

  5. The structure of the 12-Bar Blues, and which chords go where

  6. How to get the rhythm into your body

  7. How to ‘fake’ it if you get lost

How to create the mind-blowing “Kerfuffle” ending that looks hard, but is easy!

In the afternoon you’ll split into Trios and take turns shifting between bass, comping and “blowing.”  Deborah makes everything fun, and yes, YOU can learn this!

Then it's all about letting go and having fun.  The Blues is a cumulative form, so you once you know the basic structure you can keep it simple as long as you want - or you can layer, embellish and expand forever.  Players of different levels can easily come together for a spontaneous jam session.

Come have a blast while you learn a style that will make you want to run to your harp to play… for the rest of your life!
