Medium Size:

Prairie Song

  • Gothic shape like Lorraine.

  • Lighter and smaller:  26 strings x 2.

  • 14-15 lbs. (depending on the wood)

  • (Then add 3.5 pounds for base, so total with base attached is about 18 pounds).

  • Fabulous range, lowest note C.

  • Sweet pure singing tone, full projection.

  • My personal opinion:  it has one of the most comforting  tones of any harp I have played in my 25 years.

  • Feels intimate, easy to reach around.

  • Base detaches, so in its case, harp is easy to carry.

  • String tension about the same as Lorraine.

  • String spacing similar to Eve and Ena.

  • 3 5/8" C-C octave.  Comparison at bottom of page.

  • Featherlite or Camac levers.

  • Walnut, cherry, or maple wood.

  • VERY ergonomic because sound board is narrow up top near your neck and clavicle, like the other models.

  • Off the base to put in the case, it is 35"tall, 7" deep, 10" wide.  (But you do play it with the base on. Base comes in 14" and 17" heights.   Base is included with harp).

Four Lap Harp Size models:

22 strings per side, so 44 strings total. These are rich, complete, harps and have none of the limitations of a single strung small harp.

Although they are called lap harps, they are not played on top of your lap.  You play them on their detachable legs.  Or sitting on a Lap Harp Board with the harp between your legs.

Eve:

  • 8 pounds (slight variation with wood)

  • Gothic shape, in walnut, cherry, or maple

  • 22 strings x 2 (44 strings total)

  • Medium-light string tension, slightly lighter than Lorraine.

  • String spacing 3 5/8" C-C octave.  See bottom of page for comparisons.

  • Featherlite or Camac levers

  • Perfectly balanced feeling, intimate.

  • Optional base/legs I totally recommend.

  • Range of Eve is G-G

  • Articulate tone with effervescent clarity.

  • This model is the one most frequently used for hospital therapy partly because it is the lightest model.

  • People with hearing loss can hear it well, which is good for players in nursing homes.

  • Featherlite or Camac levers

  • Unbelievable projection in such a small package!

  • Extremely compact in its case.

  • Take it anywhere, great for bedside or trips.

  • More therapeutic than single strung because of rich tone quality from 2 sets of strings. (Sympathetic resonance).

  • VERY Ergonomic because sound board is narrow up top near your neck and clavicle, like all of these models.  It is the most comfortable small harp I've ever played.

  • I will help you know which height legs to get.

  • Click on "Demo Videos" to hear.

Optional quickly detachable base/legs makes ALL these lap harps as comfortable as a floor harp to play.

Brittany:

  • 9-10 pounds, depending on wood

  • 22 strings x 2

  • Irish harp shape

  • Medium string tension, slightly firmer than Brea (see string tension list at bottom of page)

  • String spacing 4" per octave;

  • Wider spacing than Eve and Ena. See bottom of page for comparisons.

  • Weight is slightly towards the front because of large pillar.  Not noticeable unless you have also played the Eve which is slightly more balanced because of Gothic shape.

ALL MODELS:

STRING TENSION COMPARISONS:

From lightest to firmest:

  • Eve, lightest

  • Loralea

  • Lorraine

  • Prairie Song (almost exactly same as Lorraine)

  • Brea

  • Brittany

  • Ena, firmest

STRING SPACING COMPARISONS:

  • Eve, Ena, Prairie Song, narrowest spacing.   3 5/8" C-C octave. (Comparable spacing to highest octave on Dusty String harps). (Similar to harpsicle spacing if you have played one of those).

  • Loralea/Lorraine- medium spacing.  (If you have played a Thormahlen Ceili it's similar). Approximately 3 3/4” C-C octave.

  • Brittany/Brea - widest string spacing of Stoney End doubles.   (4" C-C octave) (Comparable to middle range on Dusty Strings harps, and exactly the same as a Fisher Eireann if you've played that).

  • I easily adapt to all these when I move from one model to the next, or you may have a preference.

One of the gifts I include when you buy through me:

With any of these four small harps, I gift you a "LAP HARP BOARD."   You SIT on the board and place the harp between your legs to play, for times when you want to play it without the stand, (I do this in the woods or when running over to a friend's house).

For updates on freebies, new sheet music, or harps. I don't email often. Be sure and check the box under your email.
